JAMMU, July 6: President of All India Jat Mahasabha (AIJM), J&K, Choudhary Manmohan Singh today reiterated its demand to bring the Jats of J&K under OBC category as has been in rest of India.
The demand came up for discussion during a meeting of the AIJM J&K held today in Tehsil Akhnoor. This meeting was attended by the office bearers from all 3 tehsils, Akhnoor, Khour and Jourian. This meeting also discussed other issues concerning the community.
“Jats of J&K are living in border areas, their basic livelihood is agriculture, the border firing not only uproots them from their houses but kills their family members, their livestock, destroy their lands and disrupts the education of their children, which makes them non-eligible for Government jobs or any other job,” he said and urged the LG administration to consider the demand of Jat Biradari for reservation.
Meanwhile, Manmohan formed an 11-member committee with Omkar Singh (retired Joint Director Agriculture) and Ashok Choudhary (retired executive engineer) as committee heads and Sham Lal (president AIJMS Jourian), Kuldeep Kour (president AIJMS Akhnoor), Tarsem Lal (president AIJMS Khour), Krishan Singh, Surinder Choudhary, Ankush Choudhary, Dr Sandesh Choudhary, Bhaan Singh as members.
Manmohan asked them to conduct a meeting every 10 days and decide on the Jat Bhawan as soon as possible. He also asked them to include a hostel, common sitting area for elders and a computer lab for children in the Bhawan. Choudhary said that if more funds are needed, the biradari will contribute generously.
