JAMMU, July 6: Former minister and PCC general secretary, Yogesh Sawhney (Ex- MLA, Jammu East) along with a deputation of some prominent citizens of Wards 1, 2 and 3 from Jammu East, convened a meeting with the Director, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society (MMHS) to discuss certain issues.
The major issue of concern was the occurrence of accidents caused by the recent installation of cattle grids at the main entrances of the Heritage complex. The delegation elucidated that the cattle grids that have been constructed, led to serious accidents of children as well as the elderly. “In a very recent accident, in fact, an elderly lady, resident of the Tange Wali Gali, had to undergo surgery in Amritsar as a consequence of the accident.”
The grid was set up near the gate of the complex to prevent cattle from entering the premises and causing a nuisance. However, numerous people have suffered injuries because of the same, the residents had complained. “Like any road surface, a cattle grid should be safe for the public to use”, stated Yogesh Sawhney.
“Apart from causing injuries to pedestrians when their legs might slip through the grid and get stuck, a badly prepared grid can also cause damage to vehicles and two-wheelers,” he added.
The deputation requested the Director for immediate removal of this grid to prevent further problems.
The meeting also highlighted a few other issues, one concerning the installation of iron gates at the Purani Dyodi, Mubarak Mandi, and second, the issue of the development of the Mubarak Mandi Park and Complex besides parking issue. The residents resented the installation of iron gates at the Purani Dyodi as it would destroy the original characterization of the structure.
Sawhney proposed to take up development of the Mubarak Mandi Park, fix and renovate the area for the residents. They said renovation of the park would help in the beautification of the area.
Ex-MLA was accompanied by Rama Kant Khajuria, ML Malager, Raj Singh, RS Baru, Anand Gandotra , Ram Magotra , Chander Shekhar, Atul Sharma and BM Magotra.
