SRINAGAR, July 10: A village in Pattan Tehsil of district Baramulla has been demanding an up-gradation in the existing water supply for last more than 30 years, but to no avail.
Resraypora village in the tehsil has been dependent on the water supply that reaches there and used to cater to the small portion of the households living there. With the time the number of households increased, but the water supply has remained the same so far.
Locals said that around 40 years ago, there were around 40 households and now there are around 250 households in the village, but the water supply remains the same.
“From the last 30 years we are demanding a new pipeline for drinking water; the water does reach here, but that is not enough for the population that lives here,” the locals said.
The locals said that the Government several times planned for the up-gradation of the water supply scheme from nearby Gundari Nallah to Resraypora, but nothing was materialized since then.
“From 2009 Govt plan for uplifting the scheme from Gundari Nallah to Resraypora many time officials assured us but nothing was done,” Abdul Rashid Parray, Numberdar of the village said.
Other villager said a DPR was also made for the work, but nothing was done. “In 2004, the concerned DC forwarded the DPR for the replacement of pipes and uplifting scheme but portable water is a dream for us,” Ghulam Mohiuddin Sheikh said.
The members of the Village Youth Committee said that they are struggling due to the issue as the usage of canal water in absence of potable water is proving to be dangerous for the health of the villagers.
Executive Engineer, PHE Baramulla Chowdhary Qayoom told Excelsior that the work could not be kick-started due to some technical issues.
“Allotment of the said work is to be done soon, but the contractor has filed less rates and will have to submit additional CDR and because of that the work is lying pending,” he said.
The story does not end here. A road constructed under PMJSY around 7 years ago from Seru Dangerpora to Resraypora in the tehsil, however, the road was never macadamized putting the local population to hardships.
