SAMBA, July 10: The residents of the village Supwal today staged a strong protest against the administration over the issue of the Airtel Mobile Company for setting up a mobile tower in Supwal area of district Samba.
According to the report, a large number of the residents of village Supwal including male, female and children gathered at village Supwal under the leadership of Parveen Choudhary, Sarpanch Panchayat Halqa Supwal Samba. They raised slogans against the district administration and Airtel Mobile Company. They alleged that the Airtel Mobile Company is setting up a new mobile tower in their residential area which they are opposed to as it will add to health hazards in the area.
They also said that the mobile tower is being installed in the residential area, which was opposed by the people even when the first tower was installed and the administration stopped the work of the tower, but now the mobile company has tried to install the tower during holidays. He said that if the local people do not want to install mobile towers, then why the tower is being installed by the company.
While talking to Excelsior correspondent, Sarpanch Parveen Choudhary said that for last six months the company employees are continuously installing the towers in the residential areas but the people of locality are not agreeing to the same. Few months ago they met with DC Samba regarding the issue and the DC Samba marked the application to the concerned BDOs. The BDO Samba told Sarpanch to hold gram Sabha in the village to seek the opinion of the residents. In the Gram Sabha people also opposed installation of new mobile tower and the report was submitted to BDO Samba in this regard.
He said later the BDO Samba in the report said that no tower should be installed in the village.
He said that when the new police officer joined the Police Post and the employees of the company approached him and after that they started the work of the tower. He appealed to the Governor Jammu and Kashmir, Division Commissioner, Jammu and SSP Samba to look into the matter. If the people do not want the installation of the new mobile tower why the officers of the Airtel Company forcefully installed the mobile tower in the village, he asked?
