KALAKOTE, July 11: Demanding construction of road, members of Siot-Kalakote Road Action Committee organised a peaceful march from Main Bazar, Kalakote to the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kalakote, District Rajouri, where a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor was submitted through ADC Kalakote.
The protesting people, led by SKRA Committee Chairman, Ashok Sharma, also observed a brief dharna in support of their demands, which include, construction of Siot-Kalakote Double Lane Road, CBI inquiry in triple murder case in the area and medical and health infrastructure in Kalakote Assembly constituency to combat COVID-19 pandemic by providing doctors, paramedical staff and Ambulance.
Ashok Sharma said that the Prime Minister of India during his last visit to Rajouri in 2014 had publicly announced that Kalakote would be developed and made heaven on earth when main two issues were raised by the general public, Siot-Kalakote Road and CBI investigation of triple murder case in Kalakote town.
“Despite of 6 years, no step has been taken as yet. The then Chief Minister had also personally announced at Kalakote that he himself would come to Kalakote by driving his own car via Siot-Kalakote double lane road, but his commitment met the same fate,” he added.
Mr Sharma said that Siot-Kalakote road double laning project was pending from about one and a half decade while the recently macadamized single lane Siot-Kalakote Road got damaged within weeks and it has again become impossible for the patients, particularly for pregnant women and serious accidental cases to reach Jammu for medical treatment. “A day before yesterday, a young woman namely Naresh Devi wife of Babu Ram, leaving behind a minor son, of village Panjah died for the want of immediate treatment as there was not even a single doctor posted or Ambulance available in Primary Health Centre, Panjah, Medical Block Kalakote ,” he said and rued lack of medical care facilities in Kalakote.
