UDHAMPUR, July 11: Irked over the lackadaisical approach of the concerned authorities to fix the dug up roads in Udhampur, some social activists of the town today staged a demonstration near Post Office-Billan Bowli Road, Udhampur.
The agitating activists appealed the DDC Udhampur in particular to call a meeting of the officials of UEED Udhampur under whose supervision most of the city roads viz. Raj Palace-Dudadhari Ashram Road, Head Post Office-Billan Bowli Road and interior roads in Adarsh Colony area of the city have been dug up.
“The roads were dug up to lay the sewerage pipes under the Devika Rejuvenation Project around one and half years back. But since then, they (roads) have not been fixed,” said Naresh Mathur.
Ganpati Sharma, another social activist of the town, said: “This has become a routine affair now that the companies given the contract to lay down the pipes dug up the roads and then forget to fix it, causing inconvenience to the general public.”
The social activists appealed the district administration to either fix the responsibility on the executive agencies or get ready to face the consequences. “Problems to the general public wouldn’t be tolerated,” they said.
Gagan Sharma, Jia Lal, Raj Kumar Gupta, Subash Barnwal and others were among those who protested.
