Srinagar, July 16: With no examination centre notified in Kashmir, the MBBS graduates intending to appear in a licencing examination, Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) have been left in a lurch amid COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the absence of any examination centre in Kashmir, the graduates will have to travel to various states outside J&K, which appears to be quite difficult in the wake of spread of COVID-19 infection.
The parents of scores of such graduates told Excelsior that though, there is an examination centre in Jammu but that was allotted to candidates from Jammu and the candidates from Kashmir have been allotted examination centre in Chandigarh, Delhi and other States.
“No examination centre has been set up in Kashmir for them despite the worsening COVID-19 situation. An exam centre is in Jammu, but that has got booked due to the rush from Jammu,” a parent said.
Pertinently, the FMGE is a licensing examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). An Indian citizen who has completed his/her primary medical qualification from an institution outside India, but wishes to practice in India needs to clear the examination to register with the Medical Council of India (MCI)/State Medical Council (SMC).
The examination has been scheduled to be held on August 31 at various examination centres set up across the country. However, the Valley students who are set to appear in the said examination are in a grave dilemma.
“Students will face enormous problems in firstly, reaching there, then the accommodation and many other things. Then on they will have to be tested; the entire process will become so hectic; even it will expose the candidates to the infection amid the spread of COVID-19,” the parents said.
The parents of these candidates have urged the authorities to establish an examination centre in Kashmir for the local candidates who are intending to appear in the examination.
