A progressive decision

The decision of the State Government to abolish production of affidavits in various services can be called a progressive decision and will be hailed by everyone requiring the listed services. When looked at dispassionately, we find that there was really non logic in asking the candidates to produce the affidavit when the records with the Government ascertained the entries. For example, why should it be necessary for a student to submit an affidavit if he applies for issuance of a duplicate marks certificate or a diploma certificate and many other services that have been listed in the order issued by the Department of Education.
There is a demand from the civil society for bringing about reforms in the rules and regulations of many services that are no more needed. What is needed is that each department should constitute a committee to assess what rules and regulations are outdated or unnecessary in this age of science and technology and ought to be removed or replaced by progressive rules.  Apart from the services that have been identified in the order of the Education Department, there are more services in which there is dire need of bring about reforms. Therefore if this is taken a symbolic measure of initiating a process of reforms in the existing rules and regulations of various services, we are expecting that this many more services will be brought under the ambit the reform policy and we welcome it.
