JAMMU, Feb 4: For a family of five from Jammu, a trip to Patnitop for enjoying Sunday turned out to be their last journey as all the members, except one, met their tragic end in an underside crash on the Jammu-Udhampur National Highway in Tikri, under the jurisdiction of Rehambal Police Station in Udhampur district.

A couple and their two minor daughters were killed in the freak accident when their car got smashed between two trucks.
While all the four died on the spot, another minor daughter of the deceased couple had a miraculous escape in the tragic mishap that took place at Salora around quarter past midnight (12.15 a.m.).
The family from Jammu was on way to Patnitop when their Swift Dzire car slid underneath a truck moving ahead after being hit by another truck from rear side.
The deceased were identified as Nitin Dogra (47), son of Mohan Lal of Fattu Chougan, Parade, Jammu; his wife Ritu Dogra (42), their daughters Khushi Dogra (17) and Vani Dogra ( 11).
Another daughter of the deceased couple, namely Brinda Dogra (15), sustained minor injuries in the accident and was discharged after treatment at Government Medical Hospital Jammu.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh have condoled the deaths and conveyed their sympathies with the bereaved family besides assuring all possible assistance to those affected.
According to Police, the accident took place at Salora when the Swift Dzire car, bearing registration number JK02BJ-3544 and being driven by Nitin Dogra, a Travel Agent, was hit by Truck ( JK02BE-7305) from the rear side. Due to impact of the crash, the car slid beneath another truck PB06V-9004) which was moving ahead.
Even as SHO Rehambal, Inspector Pushpinder Singh and Incharge Police Post Tikri, Sahil along with the Police team, reached the spot immediately after coming to know about the accident, it took around two hours to take out the victims from wreckage of the car beneath the truck.
A mechanical jack was used to lift the truck and only then the car wreckage beneath it could be dragged out after hectic efforts.
Police said that the couple and their two daughters had died on the spot probably because of excess bleeding. However, fifth member of the family survived in the accident though she had sustained minor injuries on her face. She was shifted to District Hospital Udhampur and then referred to GMC Hospital Jammu where doctors discharged her after treatment.
Driver of both the trucks, involved in the accident, were arrested by the Police while their vehicles were also seized. A case in this connection has been registered at Police Station Rehambal. After completion of all the legal formalities and postmortem, the dead bodies were handed over to their family members.
Condoling deaths in the tragic accident, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed his deep anguish over the loss of lives and said that the District Administration was providing all possible assistance to those affected.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who represents Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha, also expressed shock over the deaths of four family members. He also spoke to DC Udhampur Saloni Rai for ensuring all possible medical aid to the injured.
Meanwhile, in another road mishap on Sunday, two cousins died when their car rolled down at Mahore in Reasi district.
Reports said that an Alto car, bearing Registration number JK08B-4586 met with accident near Higher Secondary School Bathoie Mahore resulting into death of two persons on the spot. The car was going from Mahore to Bathoie when it skidded off the road and rolled down around 100 feet deep into the gorge.
The deceased were first cousins and have been identified as Ajaz Ahmed, age 34 years, son of Nizam Din, resident of Mahore and Mohd Asif, age 27 years, son of Mohd Din, resident of Mahore.
