Kajal Suri, daughter of thesoil, is a well known name in the field of theatre, radio and T.V. She was born to a legendry personality in the field of art and drama VijaySuri at Srinagar and completed her educational qualification at Jammu with M.Sc. Home Science. She was like a whooper swan that touches the limits of sky and does not rest until it attains the goal. Kajal is a treasure of talent and she was eager to let it expose in front of the world. She started participating in tele-films and stage dramas even when she was a child. This journey continued and she improved her acting process by taking active parts in stage plays: Yeh Natak Nahi Hai, Mahanirvaan, Kahan Ho Faquir Chand, Raktbeeh, Ant Nahin etc.
Besides, Kajal did her course in journalism from Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, Jammu and started publishing her articles on various burning issues in many reputed newspapers, and magazines of that time. Kajal was very well aware of Franklin’s quote: “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement and success have no meaning.” So she did not want to accept her success with these handful of achievements.
She had an urge to gather more than that and with this passion she was successfully qualified for the post of Transmission Executive in All India Radio, Delhi and has been pursuing her career there till date as Programme Executive in Drama section. Besides her job, she also did her Master’s in Mass Communication there.
Kajal is the recipient of best actress award seven times from the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu for her acting calibre. She was the member of young Journalist Association of J&K before moving to Delhi and received Premnath Bhatt Memorial Young Journalist Award. She was also accreditation card holder in freelance journalist category.
Kajal is a multifaceted personality and is dedicated from the core of her heart to provide her best in all the fields of art and literature . She has written about 150 poems in Hindi language and 100 poems in English and is planning to compile them in a book.
Kajal organised Vijay Suri National Theatre Festival under Robroo Theatre in June 2016 in J&K which was a great success. In Delhi under Robroo Theatre she organised Young Director’s Theatre Festival this year in February to promote young and budding directors who can’t afford auditorium to show-case their talent.
She was selected by Punjabi Academy among five Women directors for Punjabi women Director’s Festival. She was the recipient of Sur Aradhana Award for the contribution in the field of art and culture along with her father, bagged Akashwani Annual Award for the production of PremKa Sur Ashtha Ka Sangeet——– Lalleshwari on national integration.
Kajal has produced and directed many T.V Serials, T.V. Plays, Tele-films, documentaries for Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar. She has acted in more than 400 T.V Serials, telefilms and T.V plays for DDK Srinagar. She was invited by Delhi University and other private Universities to deliver lecture on theatre and media.
Kajal also bagged award for the contribution in the field of Hindi Theatre. She received Greenfly Excellence Award 2017 in the category of Theatre Drama and Voice.
She delivered lectures on Radio Drama planning and production to the students at National Academy of Broadcasting and Multimedia New Delhi on regular basis . Besides receiving RashtriyaSamman by UPTA for contribution in the field of theatre in January, 2019, She also received ZohraSehgal National Award 2020.
Kajal has not stopped her journey nor she has slowed down the pace of her progress. She almost daily does theatre. She always keeps in mind the quotation of Martin Luther King which says:
