Aadhaar Cards for security of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine

REASI, Aug 23: District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, today initiated process for enrolment of local citizens and workers in Katra town and various Panchayats as measure to beef up security of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in pursuance of directions issued by Union Home Secretary during a high level security meeting held in Jammu last week.
First Aadhaar Card information was generated in favour of Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Addl Chief Executive Officer SMVD Shrine Board and SP Katra Pawan Parihar followed by local citizens. Assistant Director P&S Chaman Lal and Executive Officer Municipal Committee Ravi Kumar coordinated the programme.
Under this initiative Katra town and 12 Panchayats in its vicinity will be covered on a war footing followed by enrolment of all the workers associated with Shrine Board and Mule/Cab operators as well as business establishments to ensure temper proof identity in and aroud the area of Holy Shrine.
DDC is personally monitoring the Aadhaar enrolment in Katra. Five stations have been put in place which will enrol 350 persons every day. The initiative was necessitated after complaints of forged identity cards being used by various workers and operators in the vicinity of Katra town which poses a security threat.
Function was attended by members of Hotel Association, businessmen and prominent citizens
The process of Aadhaar was already started in the district which has been divided into 9 charge centres for hundred percent coverage of inhabitants. It has already completed about 35% progress in a short span of two months.
