SRINAGAR, Aug 9: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today expressed its concern on rising menace of drug addiction as well as increase in crime rate in Jammu and Kashmir and suggested a series of measures on preventive grounds with an aim to help police in keeping a check on the situation.
Concerned over some statistics showing increase in crime rate as well as drugs addiction in Jammu as well as Srinagar, Dr Nawab from AAP said that time has come for serious introspection in the issue and to ensure that there remains a properly designed policy towards both these issues. He was addressing a press conference today.
“We have a rise in crime rate in Jammu as well as Srinagar which are regarded as City of Temples and Land of Saints,” he mentioned adding that unfortunately the statistics of crime rate and drug addiction are showing a trend which is against the cultural, religious, social and moral values of twin cities.
Dr Nawab further stated that the ruling setup of LG administration is not paying due concern on this prime issue which is weakening the society from its roots and even all other political parties are merely busy in political walks and only AAP has taken a stand against this grave issue.
Putting forth a number of suggestions, Dr Nawab said that third eye surveillance should be ensured in the best possible manner in all areas of J&K and the public vigilance system should be strengthened for a mass public participation in keeping check over the issue.
Underlining the need to establish more and more women specific police establishments, AAP leader said that more and more women specific helplines should be established so that women in distress can seek help after calling on these helpline numbers.
“Government should think in a real sense on this issue and religious leaders, preachers and scholars should also play the role in educating people to become whistleblowers against criminal activities in society,” He said.
