SRINAGAR, Aug 25: Terming health sector of Jammu and Kashmir as ill in its own condition, Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday appealed the Lt Governor to stop believing the performance mentioned in papers and to pay surprise visits in health institutions across the Kashmir valley to understand the ground position in actual.
While addressing a press conference, here today, AAP leader Dr Nawab, who himself is a professional in hospital management and administration, pooh-poohed the Government claims regarding expenditure of thousands of crores over health sector in J&K and said that the ground realities were quite contrary to what was being claimed.
Drawing attention towards ground realities of Lal Ded Hospital, the AAP leader said that open drainage system in the hospital was like an open invitation to all infections. Further, he added, on one hand there is lack of adequate space, bedding and parking even in today’s condition and now Government is mulling to provide another 200 bedded additional facility but from where they will manage space to install these beds?
“We want that healthcare services should be of top level and always support Government in it but the question is how these improvements will be made when there is a infinity level gap between claims and realities.” said Dr Nawab.
He mentioned about other hospital likes SKIMS, Bone and Joints Hospital where situation is almost of same nature and things are not upto mark due to extreme work load on staff, poor arrangements for patients and attendants and lack of resources.
“No one can deny the fact that hospitals in J&K are a source of HAI (Hospital Acquired Infections) and no one is paying concern to this,” Dr Nawab said and alleged that mandatory provision to fumigate the operation theatres after around one hundred surgeries to minimise chances of HAIs was not being followed.
Further mentioning about health institutions in rural areas of Kashmir valley, Dr Nawab said that District Hospital Handwara now also houses GMC but there is no CT scan facility whereas main hospital in Kupwara is devoid of digital X-ray facility and this all is a clear example as how things are there in rural areas.
Dr Nawab said that the healthcare model of AAP is getting world level recognition especially through Mohalla Clinics.
