Srinagar, Aug 3: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today held a sit-in protest here, demanding information regarding the recently disclosed  Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)report of 97,051 missing girls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Scores of party workers assembled at the Press Enclave, seeking more information from the Government regarding the alarming revelation that nearly ten thousand women have gone missing from the region between 2019 to 2021. In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State for Home, Ajay Mishra, informed the parliament on 28th July that 9,765 women have gone missing from their homes in Jammu and Kashmir during the specified period.
“The missing figure that was recently issued in parliament regarding the disappearance of women in Jammu and Kashmir needs more clarification. We want to know the reasons behind these disappearances, their current whereabouts, and who is responsible for these tragedies. Families of the missing girls are suffering, unable to come forward due to social pressures,” a protestor said.
The protestor further said that the AAP aims to act as a bridge between the administration and the affected families to help solve this pressing issue. “Our wealth lies in the pride and dignity of our women, and we stand here for them. The recently held G20 event received a lot of attention, and trivial issues made headlines, but why is this critical issue of missing girls not being hyped or reported? Our girls are missing, and their identity is at stake,” she added.
She said the AAP launched a signature campaign to garner support for the cause of the missing women in Jammu and Kashmir. “We demand a detailed report on who the missing women are, who is responsible for their disappearance, and where they are now. Those responsible must face harsh punishment. We urge people to issue an official report on this matter,” the protestor said.
The protestors also expressed concerns about the report causing panic among the people and demanded that the LG administration provide a detailed report to clarify whether these incidents are real or merely an attempt to divert public attention.
