KATHMANDU : Post-election political developments in Nepal figured during meetings that Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah held here today with President Ram Baran Yadav and other top leaders.
Abdullah called on Yadav at Rastrapati Bhawan here. He also met Interim Council of Ministers chairman Khil Raj Regmi at his official residence.
Talking briefly to reporters, he expressed hope that Nepal’s political parties will succeed in their efforts to draft a new constitution within the stipulated time-frame of one year.
A flexible and accommodative Constitution will last for a longer period rather than a rigid one, he said.
Abdullah said he had brought good wishes from the people and the Government of India for a democratic, stable and prosperous Nepal.
He is the first Indian minister to visit Nepal after the November 19 Constituent Assembly elections. The political developments after the polls figured prominently during Abdullah’s meetings with the top leadership here.
During an interaction with Nepalese business leaders, Abdullah stressed the need for bilateral collaboration to develop Nepal’s vast hydropower potentiality and in other renewable sources of energy.
Abdullah arrived here yesterday to inaugurate a three-day trade expo being organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce Kolkata on the sidelines of the Inter-Governmental Committee meeting. The expo is aimed at attracting Indian investments in Nepal’s energy, tourism, agriculture and IT sectors. (AGENCIES)
