Abdullah made these remarks in response to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent statement, where Singh claimed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the NC were “daydreaming” about the return of Article 370.
Speaking at an election rally in the Pattan in Baramulla district, the NC Chief questioned Singh, asking: “How long did it take them to scrap it? It may take us time, but we will surely restore it because it reflects the voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Where have their jobs gone? The land and safeguards were theirs-what has become of all this today?”
He added that the BJP used to claim that militancy was caused by Article 370. “Now, after five years in government, where has this terrorism come from? Who was responsible for the hijacking of IC-814 to Kandahar?” he said.
Abdullah placed the blame squarely on New Delhi for the region’s current situation.
Addressing Congress party leader Vikar Rasool’s stance regarding their alliance, NC chief said: “The Congress stands with us in the alliance, and we will remain united, no matter what some leaders might say.”
On Mehbooba Mufti’s recent remarks suggesting that the Congress was not good enough for NC in J&K until Mufti Sayeed made it so, Abdullah expressed his disappointment. “For 20 years, her father was the president of the Congress. Who made him leave? Let her answer that,” he asked.
