Abdullahs, Art 370 disempowered Gujjars: BJP

JAMMU, Sept 15: Three generations of Abdullahs from Sheikh to Farooq and to Omar exploited Gujjars to get their votes.
This was claimed by BJP spokesperson, Arun Gupta here today adding that none of the Abdullahs took any welfare measure to empower the Gujjar community.
Gupta also said that NC is talking about restoration of Article 370 and it wants to push the Gujjar community back to old days when they were not treated as Scheduled Tribes (STs) and had no reservation benefits.
“Due to Article 370, the Forest Rights Act, 2006 was not applicable in J&K. However, once the Article 370 was abrogated in August 2019, the Gujjars got the rights guaranteed under the Indian Constitution,” he maintained adding; “It was the Constitution of J&K which denied due rights to Gujjars.”
The BJP leader also said that it is for the first time that nine seats have been reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Legislative Assembly of J&K.
He claimed that Omar Abdullah is misleading Gujjars by promising to give them rights after Assembly elections.
