Abhishek Bharti awarded Ph.D in 71st Annual Convocation of PU

CHANDIGARH, Mar 11: Jammu’s famous Theatre Director Dr. Abhishek Bharti was awarded his Ph.D. at the 71st Annual Convocation of Punjab University Chandigarh, held here today.
Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, graced the event as the chief guest.
Bharti’s doctoral research focused on the Dogri folk theatre form “Haran,” with the topic “Jammu Ki Vishisht Lok Natya Shailey Haran: Ek Sarvekshan aur Mulyankan.”
He completed his research under the guidance of Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Chairperson of the Department of Indian Theatre at Punjab University Chandigarh.
Remarkably, Bharti stands as the first scholar from Jammu & Kashmir to pursue a Ph.D. on the folk theatre form of the Jammu region, contributing significantly to the preservation and scholarly understanding of the region’s cultural heritage.
He has been in theatre from last 25 years and has worked with eminent Theatre Director’s like Padma Blawant Thakur, Kumar. A. Bharti, Mortein Craig, Gursharan Singh, Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Partho Bandhopadhaya, Probir Guha, Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Kavi Rattan, Bhumikeshwar, Prof. Navnendra Behl, Dr.Sunita Dhir, Kewal Dhaliwal, Vasant Joesalkar, Prof. Mahendra Kumar, Sanjay Upadhyay, and many more.
After completing his M.A. Dogri in 2008 from University Of Jammu, he went to Deptt. of Theatre and T.V. Punjabi University Patiala to complete his Masters in Theatre and got awarded with University’s Gold Medal in Masters of Performing Arts.
Then he came back to Jammu and directed plays like “Visarjan”, “Gagan Damama Bajyo”, “Agni Barkha”, “The Government Inspector”, “X- Reflection” “The Last Colony”, “Blood & Beauty”, “Macbeth; The Crown If Blood”, and got State Awards for Best Play and Best Director for the year 2010,2011,2012,2013,2014,2015, 2018, from Jammu and Kashmir Academy Of Art Culture And Languages, Jammu and JKFMAC Srinagar.
The entire theatre fraternity of Jammu & Kashmir extended their heartfelt congratulations to Abhishek Bharti, acknowledging his role as a young and dynamic theatre director in the region.
