JAMMU, Mar 6: General Category People’s Forum (J&K), has appealed to the Modi Government to totally abolish reservation system as it is dividing society, ignoring real talent and making country more weak.
In a meeting of the Forum held here today under the leadership of Raj Kumar Banathia (chairman), the members strongly condemned the existing system of reservation in jobs and admissions, which divide people on the basis of caste, class, religion and region. They termed it as divisive and undemocratic.
They demanded that Govt should uplift the poor, needy and deserving people through special support measures, ending reservation system. This system is causing erosion and exploitation of the talent and making country more weak. Highly talented youth of the country, fed up with the quota system are preferring to move to USA, Europe or other countries and contributing in the massive progress and development of those nations.
Banathia said Govt need to remove poverty from the country. People lack basis amenities electricity, water supply, medical facilities, ration and road connectivity. He demanded 50 % cut in electric and water bills and heavy reduction in taxes to provide relief to the people facing massive inflation.
Prof Yash Paul Sanson, president said that Forum has vowed to fight for equal rights and equal laws for all citizens and total abolition of reservation. He appealed to the Govt of India for the removal of restrictions imposed on the application of Fundamental Rights. Prof Sanson stressed for abrogation of all such laws and legal provisions which discriminate between castes . He said there is no bigger human rights violation than caste and class discrimination.
Som Nath Sharma, general secretary urged upon the Union Govt to bring a legislation to end caste based reservation as it was temporary provision / arrangement for initial 10 years. Reservation is arbitrary and is violation of Article 14, 15 and 16. He pinned hope that Modi Govt would take legal steps for correction of injustices done in the past.
