JAMMU, Sept 15: Abolition of Triple Talaq will ensure dignity and equality to crores of Muslim women, said BJP Mahila Morcha national president, Vijaya Rahatkar here today.
Rahatkar who is on two-day’s visit to J&K under the series of BJP’s Jan Jagran Abhiyaan on “Abrogation of Article 370 and Abolition of Triple Talaq” was addressing ‘Mahila Swabhimaan Sammellan’ here.
Vijaya Rahatkar along with BJP State president Ravinder Raina, national vice-president & Prabhari Rashim Sood, Morcha State president, Rajni Sethi, BJP State general secretary (Org.) Ashok Koul, State general secretary, Yudhvir Sethi, former Dy. CM, Kavinder Gupta, State spokesperson & Ex-MoS Priya Sethi, Suresh Jamwal, Sheela Handoo, district president Baldev Billowria, Rekha Mahajan and Sunita Gupta addressed the programme.
Rahatkar said the passage of the Triple Talaq Bill in Rajya Sabha is a victory for millions of Muslim Women and called it a true testimony to “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas”.
The passage of the Bill is a victory for millions of Muslim women. She added the Triple Talaq Bill passed in Rajya Sabha is historic and will help Muslim women who used to be thrown out by first repeating Talaq three times without any support and sometimes without children. The Bill is going to give gender equality to Muslim women. It will be a deterrent as men will think twice before they take such steps, she added.
She said Modi Government is the first Government which took a decision on Triple Talaq without thinking of vote bank and appeasement. She said, “I want to congratulate PM Modi on behalf of all the women of our country that he took a big decision for women empowerment without coming under any pressure and got it passed in Parliament and Rajya Sabha.”
Rajni Sethi said “‘We as a women feel it as is a historic day for women of the country as Modi Government is committed for dignity and respect of women of India. She added that the practice of instant divorce by Muslim men will be punishable by jail term up to three years.
Rashim Dhar Sood said, this is an occasion to salute the remarkable courage of those Muslim women who have suffered great wrongs just due to the practice of Triple Talaq, adding that the abolition of the practice will contribute to women empowerment and given women the dignity they deserve in our country.
Ravinder Raina said an archaic and medieval practice has finally been confined to the dustbin of history! Parliament abolished Triple Talaq and corrects a historical wrong done to Muslim women and with this decision all Muslim women of India rejoices, he added.
State general secretary, BJPMM Sanjita Dogra conducted the proceedings of the programme.
