About dozen illegal structures demolished near airport

JAMMU, Nov 27: District administration here today conducted a demolition drive at Jammu airport and razed about a dozen illegal structures including both commercial and residential.
Sources informed that notices were already issued to the occupants of the demolished structures to evict the premises.
They also said that the demolition drive was part of airport expansion project.
A large number of police personnel, some in civvies, were present on the occasion to prevent any untoward incident like opposition during the demolition drive.
However, the drive was carried out in a peaceful manner though the affected people staged a peaceful protest against the demolition drive and said that they were thrown out of their homes on a day when there was rain in the winter chill.
Sources further informed that the place which was freed today from the encroachers may be used for parking of vehicles of those visiting the airport.
