SRINAGAR, Dec 11: Senior vice-president of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said their party will continue peaceful and constitutional fight for the restoration of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the meeting of newly elected Panchs and Sarpanchs of People’s Conference at his residence in Srinagar. Vakil said Article 370 was virtually a bridge between J&K and rest of the country but it is unfortunate that the present dispensation at the Centre destroyed it and with the result they have created a huge wedge between people of J&K with rest of the country.
Vakil said Article 370 was more in the interest of the country rather in the interest of J&K as the Kashmir issue is still existing in United Nations Organisation (UNO) and Security Council where the issue was discussed and debated on different occasions.
“The issue is so sensitive that no sane and prudent Govt would have thought to abrogate Article 370 for it has far reaching international repercussions and consequences, ” Vakil added.
He said this decision of abrogation will prove a big political blunder for BJP as the decision was taken in haste simply for vote bank purposes.
Vakil said that Modi Govt has never been sincere from the beginning to keep its promises made to the people of J&K.
“After becoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his first visit to Kashmir assured and promised publically to strengthen Kashmiriyat, Jamuriyat and Insaniyat but proved a hollow slogan and totally lie. Instead strengthening Kashmiriyat, he abrogated Article 370 and deeply hurt the sentiments of the people of J&K,” he added.
“More than a year has passed Home Minister of India assured in a Parliament and Prime Minister addressing the people of J&K on National broadcast to restore statehood to J&K without wasting time but nothing has been in this regard till today. How can we believe in future the present dispensation in the centre who always speak a lie.” Vakil questioned.
