JAMMU, June 5: Police in Nagrota area here claimed today they have arrested an absconder who was evading his arrest for the past 17 years.
A police official said Madan Singh of Basant Nagar, Jammu, was booked in case FIR number 101/2000 under sections 452, 332, 148, and 149 of the RPC registered at Police Station Nagrota.
He said the accused continued to appear before the concerned court in this case until 2007 when he went into hiding by jumping his bail.
In between, the accused was living in different Ashrams as a monk, he said, adding that a warrant against the accused was also issued under section 512 of the CrPC by the concerned court.
On getting information about the accused today, a team of Police Station Nagrota led by Inspector Rajeshwar Singh, SHO Nagrota, successfully arrested the accused and executed the arrest warrant.
