Sir,
A very serious and disappointing news of finding 90 employees absent in 115 different Government offices during a surprise inspection by the special teams sent by the Deputy Commissioner in Rajouri district of J & K appeared in Daily Excelsior dated 14.10.2018. Unauthorized absenteeism in employees is an all over Indian syndrome and has gripped almost all the government offices including health and education. Such surprised raids conducted by administration from time to time at various places have always found a large section of employees absent from their offices which is not limited to J&K or Punjab but is prevalent all over the country.
May be the percentage of absentees is little bit less in southern states than in northern states. Employees always have a plethora of excuses for being absent from duty. They always look for one or the other excuse to be absent from duty because they know that nothing will happen against them. They have full support of their unions and bosses to cover up such activities. It is well known that while in office, majority of the employees are not putting their best in the service of nation. That is why India is not progressing in spite of having large pool of employees, vast natural resources and suitable working conditions. Employees reach very late in offices and then rarely are present on their seats throughout the working hours and also leave the office as early as possible.
People of India have to learn official dedication at par with their dedication towards their family, near and dear ones. Such raids must be conducted on regular basis in order to keep punctuality and maintain discipline in the government employees so that official machinery is available to resolve the problems faced by the common people and services are provided in an effective way to the citizens. Authorities should take serious view of such absenteeism in employees and some measures like CCTV cameras, biometric attendance system, and time bound evaluation of work have to be implemented, moreover, strict action should be taken against the habitual defaulter employees.
