JAMMU, Feb 14: Akhil Bharatiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh (ABSMS) today gave an ultimatum to the Urban Local Bodies Department that in case it failed to concede the demands in 14 days from today the Safai Karamcharis will be forced to launch agitation once again.
The Safai Karamcharis owing allegiance to the Sangh held a protest demonstration in support of their long pending demands which they said were agreed in principal by the Director Urban Local Bodies after the Safai Karamcharis on the call of Sangh went indefinite strike on January 23 last year.
Informing this to reporters here, the ABSMS State president, Lucky Chida said “We were given in writing by the Department vide letter number DOULB/2019/23495 dated 23-01-2019 that all the six demands have been agreed in letter and spirit”. He said the Department in principle had agreed that SRO 520 will not be implemented on Safai Karamcharis and on the basis of this assurance we called off the strike. In addition to it the Government agreed that administration will provide uniforms to all Safai Karamcharis within 15 days, provide jobs to next kin of deceased under SRO 43, implementation of Seventh Pay Commission recommendations and clearance of arrears of two and half days to Safai Karamcharis , providing room for Safai Karamcharis in all municipal committees, he said. But after passage of one year instead of implementing the agreement on demands they started recruitment under SRO 520 which is totally against the interests of Safai Karamcharis, he added.
He demanded that recruitment process under the SRO 520 be stopped immediately. The Sangh is demanding recruitment be done as per SRO 64 which is genuine.
Chidha warned that in case the Department failed to take cognizance of the demands and settle them within 14 days the Safair Karamcharis will go on strike under Industrial Act 1947 Section 22 (1) from February 28 this year. Prior to it the Safai Karamcharis will go on dharna on February 25, 26 and 27, he added.
