JAMMU, Sept 23: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Jammu Kashmir has raised the concerns regarding the challenges faced by BSc Nursing aspirants under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).
In a memorandum submitted to the Union Health Minister, J P Nadda, ABVP outlined several issues stemming from recent amendments by the Indian Nursing Council, which made it mandatory for students to qualify either the NEET or JKCET for admission to nursing colleges. The timing of these examinations has created significant overlap with the PMSSS registration period, leaving many students unable to register for the necessary entrance exams, explains the memorandum.
While submitting the memorandum, Akshi Billowria – ABVP State Secretary, said that the registration process for NEET was started from 9th Feb -10th April & JKBOPEE registration from 5 May-26 May and PMSSS scheme portal for registration was available from 18 June to 29 July. As a result of this, students were not able to register in either JKBOPEE or NEET examination and are now rendered ineligible for admission in BSc Nursing, she added.
ABVP urged the Health Minister to clarify these criteria and support the affected students, advocating for a review of the policies to ensure equitable access to education for all aspiring nursing professionals in Jammu Kashmir.
ABVP demanded one time exemption to qualify NEET or JKCET for admission in B Sc Nursing under PMSSS so that those students who were not able to register in either of said examination be made eligible for seeking admission in respective courses.
