JAMMU, Oct 25: The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has condemned alleged incidents of inappropriate frisking and physical contact with students at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu.
In a statement, ABVP claimed that students enrolled in the Integrated Program in Management (IPM) have reported discomfort and distress due to security procedures crossing acceptable boundaries.
According to ABVP, multiple students have expressed concerns over an overly invasive frisking process, which they felt violated their personal space and dignity.
Some students, the ABVP, have alleged that frisking involved contact with sensitive areas, which they believed was unnecessary under standard security protocols.
The ABVP has called for a thorough investigation, urging the IIM Jammu administration to take immediate action to address these complaints.
ABVP State Secretary Akshi Billowria described the incidents as “deeply concerning and unacceptable,” adding that such actions undermine students’ personal dignity and create a hostile learning environment.
Billowria emphasized the need for the administration to reassess its security procedures to prevent unnecessary physical contact and invasion of privacy.
She also called for improved training for security personnel to ensure professionalism and reduce discomfort during checks.
Billowria noted that the administration must promptly address the concerns raised by students and offer necessary support, highlighting the potential impact on students’ mental well-being.
She reiterated that the safety and well-being of students should be the top priority for educational institutions.
By implementing appropriate measures, Billowria believed, IIM Jammu can rebuild trust and foster a conducive environment for learning.
