JAMMU, Oct 27:  Continuing their stir against suspension of three students by Jammu University, activists of ABVP today held a strong protest demonstration on the campus as well as outside the main gate.
Shouting slogans in support of their demand for revocation of suspension of three students, the protesting ABVP activists blocked the road in front of JU Main Gate and disrupted vehicular movement for more than an hour. They also staged a dharna in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s secretariat.
The protesting students, including a number of girls, got the classes boycotted in various Departments of the University and then marched towards the Main Gate in the form of a procession.  They staged a demonstration in front of the campus gate and remained there for more than hour thus disrupting vehicular movement on the road.
The protesting students were also addressed by some ABVP activists, who vowed to continue their ongoing agitation till the Jammu University revokes suspension of Kanav Sharma, Madhu Sharma and Deepak Gupta besides lifting alleged restrictions on `democratic’ activities of the students on the campus. They also alleged administrative failure of Jammu University in dealing with the students.
Later, the protesting students again marched towards the campus and assembled near the VC Secretariat when a dharna was staged.
Due to the ABVP protest, normal functioning of the Jammu University remained badly affected till late afternoon.
As reported earlier, the Jammu University had ordered suspension of three students following tussle with ABVP activists on October 13-14 over the issue of holding Student Leaders Conference on the campus.
Meanwhile, sources said that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof R D Sharma sought opinion of JU Faculty Deans, HoDs and Directors of different centres of the university over the policy guidelines for holding events on the campus.
During a marathon meeting in this regard, held last evening, majority members supported the JU move on ABVP episode  even as a few suggested that the situation could have been handled in a better way by adopting some flexible approach, sources said.
