Due to protest, the traffic movement remained disrupted on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Thousands of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway.
As the protestors remained adamant on their demands including suspension of SHO Police Station Ramban, shifting of Deputy Commissioner Ramban and SSP Ramban, the police cane-charged the protestors to disperse them and restore vehicular movement on the highway. Some of the protestors also received minor injuries when police cane-charged them.

Earlier, to defuse the tension, DIG DKR Range Uday Bhaskar Billa held talks with the protestors at Police Station Ramban, but the same failed as protestors remained adamant on their demands. The protestors also demanded revocation of case registered against the ABVP activists.
However, the District Administration has imposed Section 144 CrPC across district Ramban and warned of strict action against the violators.
Later, the vehicular movement was restored on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
On Thursday night, the scores of ABVP activists had staged a demonstration outside Police Station Ramban to protest against setting up of an oxygen plant on the land of Government Model Higher Secondary School. BJP leaders from Ramban, including former MLA Neelam Kumar Langeh, had also participated in the demonstration.
The protesters today alleged that the Ramban Police had beaten up ABVP workers and detained several others, including the outfit’s District President Tarun Dev Singh, on Thursday night.
Police sources said that a case under FIR Number 132/2021 under Sections 353, 447, 147, 332, 504 and 506 IPC has been registered against three ABVP activists namely Tarun Dev Singh Chib, District President ABVP, Pawan Rathore and Aryan at Police Station Ramban.
Meanwhile, a large number of ABVP activists assembled near Dogra Chowk in Jammu and demanded suspension of the SHO Police Station Ramban viz a magisterial inquiry into the ‘beating’ and arrest of its activists by the police.
They raised anti-police slogans and sat on a dharna near Dogra Chowk, disrupting vehicular movement for couple of hours. However, the police detained some of ABVP activists and cleared the protest site.
“We took this step of detaining them as a preventive measure. This cannot be termed as a peaceful protest as they have disrupted the traffic”, SP City Mohita Sharma said.
Talking to reporters, UT Secretary of ABVP Mukesh Manhas said, “ABVP has been protesting in Ramban for the past three days against the setting up of an oxygen plant on the school land”. He claimed that over 10 activists were detained on Thursday night and a case has been registered against 3 members of the ABVP.
ABVP Jammu Mahanagar Secretary, Chahat Anand said that it is very unfortunate that police has beaten students, who were protesting peacefully.
Ramnik Sharma and Nandita Sharma J&K Joint Secretaries ABVP, Akshay Sharma, Rishab Bali, Manik Goswami, Natesh Dalmotra, Hariom Sharma, Chitvan Bali, Amit Manhas, Kulbir Singh, Anubav, Raghuvir, Danish and many others were also present in the protest.
