JAMMU, June 11: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Jammu University unit today protested against the criteria fixed for the students of JU affiliated colleges to get admission in 5th semester.
The protest, held outside the office of the Dean of Academic Affairs, highlighted the issue being faced by 4th-semester students who are finding it difficult to meet the criteria set by the university administration to get admission in 5th semester.
According to the current policy of the University of Jammu, students must have fully passed their 1st and 2nd semesters, achieved at least 50 percent of the credits in the 3rd semester, and fully passed the internal assignments of the 4th semester to be eligible for admission.
“These factors have impacted students’ academic performance, making it challenging for them to meet the requirements set by the university. ABVP believes that the university administration must reconsider and revise these criteria to make the admission process more inclusive and fair. The current policy is not only unrealistic but also unfair, and if it remains unchanged, a significant number of students will be excluded from continuing their education,” said ABVP President of Jammu University unit, Sahil Choudhary.
He demanded a fairer and more accommodating policy that allows students to continue their education without unnecessary obstacles.
ABVP State Joint Secretary Sannak Srivats also addressed the gathering. Later, a delegation of ABVP met with the Dean Academic Affairs and discussed their concerns, urging the administration to change the decision. They warned that if the criteria are not revised, ABVP will hold more strong protests all over Jammu.
