JAMMU, Aug 31: Resenting the increase in mess fee, hostel lodging fee and courses fee, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Central University Jammu Unit, today submitted a memorandum to Dean Student Welfare Dr Ritu Bakshi.
Prabhakar Bhardwaj, unit president of ABVP, explained that the course fees are being increased continuously by the university while all the students come from middle class families and thus leaving their studies.
ABVP demanded that the increase in fees should be reduced so that all students can get quality education in easy with accessible and reasonable fee.
Joint Secretary of the ABVP unit, Aditya said that the hostel fees are being increased by the university administration for three consecutive years. In the year 2021-22 the hostel fee was Rs 5,000 per semester and in the year 2022-23 this fee has been increased to Rs 9,000 per semester while for the year 2023-24, the hostel fee has been increased to Rs 12,000 per semester.
Similarly, he added, mess fee of the hostel was also increased by Rs 150 just a month ago and now the fee is being increased again by Rs 210 which was opposed by ABVP and all other student’s. ABVP leader also demanded free bus service for the students coming from the university hostels to the campus.
ABVP CU Jammu unit President Prabhakar demanded that appropriate action should be taken as soon as possible keeping in mind the interests of the students otherwise the ABVP will start agitation in the university in the coming days regarding the genuine demands of the students.
