JAMMU, Jan 9: A delegation of ABVP activists led by its National President Prof Rajsharan Shahi called on President of India, Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi and apprised her about working system of the Vidyarthi Parishad around the country.
According to ABVP national secretary, Ghulam Ali, it was a cordial meet during which a complete overview of ABVP working and new programs like Ritumati Abhiyan, Mission Sahasi for girls empowerment and offshots like SFS, SFD, Think India were discussed with the President.
“The President gave patient hearing to the delegation members and told them to work towards holistic grooming and development of students viz a viz society. She also talked about girls education, current educational scenario, social and security scenario of Jammu Kashmir,” said Mustafa Ali while addressing media persons, here today.
He further informed that ABVP delegates also held a series of meetings with several Union Ministers including HRD Minister, Finance Minister, Tribal Affair Minister besides UGC Chairman and AICTE Chairman in the national capital.
Stressing that 1-2 percent of India’s GDP should be spent on research and higher education, ABVP said that to encourage writing and publication of research papers in Indian languages, a concrete policy should be formulated by the Central Government at the earliest.
ABVP also demanded that National Eligibility Test conducted by CSIR, ICAR and ASRB among others should be reverted and these examination be conducted regularly according to common calendar of nation, amount of non-net fellowship should be increased, new hostels be constructed in the Universities, intake capacities in the educational institutes should be increased and infrastructure should be developed accordingly, provide financial support to deserving research scholars, funding of ICSSR, ICHR, ICCR, ICMR, ICAR etc be increased, financial support be provided for research in state universities, rejuvenation of State Universities, funds to develop sports facilities and modern labs in State Universities, startup incubation center in each university, filling up of vacant faculty positions, etc.
