JAMMU, Jan 8: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Jammu Kashmir has demanded restoration of waiting list criteria in the selection procedure by Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and Jammu Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB).
“The waiting list has played a crucial role in ensuring fairness and transparency in the recruitment process. It provides an avenue for deserving candidates who might have narrowly missed the initial selection, offering them an opportunity to secure a position based on merit in case of vacancies or unforeseen circumstances, “said ABVP State Secretary Akshi Billowria, in a statement issued here today.
She added that by eliminating the waiting list, the Government risks depriving highly qualified and capable candidates of their rightful chance to contribute to the public service. This decision could lead to a loss of talent and diversity within the public administration, ultimately undermining the principles of equality and meritocracy, she added.
“Furthermore, the omission of the waiting list may result in a perception of unfairness and arbitrary decision making, eroding the trust of aspiring candidates in the integrity of the selection process. This could have long-lasting repercussions on the morale of students and the credibility of the JKPSC and JKSSB,” said the ABVP leader.
She reminded that the High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh also in a recent judgement, ruled that the select/waiting list remains operative for one year to fill up vacancies which remain unfilled due to non-joining of the selected candidates.
ABVP urged the LG JKUT to reconsider this decision and reinstate the waiting list criteria in the JKPSC & JKSSB selection procedure. This would not only ensure a more equitable and merit based recruitment process but also foster confidence among the student community in the Government’s commitment to transparency and fairness, said Akshi Billowria.
