JAMMU, Jan 30: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Central University of Jammu unit, submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor Prof Sanjeev Jain seeking reduction in the increased university fees.
ABVP CU Jammu unit President, Prabhakar Bhardwaj said that the course fee is being increased every year by the university administration, even as most of the students in the university belong to poor and lower middle class families, and a large number of them come from different States to study here.
“Due to continuous fee hike, there is more burden on the students with the result they are forced to leave the education,” he added.
ABVP CUJ unit Secretary Shagun Sharma said that the university is also increasing the hostel fees from three consecutive years. In the year 2021-22, the hostel fee was Rs 5,000 per semester and in the year 2022-23 the hostel fee was increased to Rs 9,000 per semester while in the last year 2023-24, the hostel fee was increased to Rs 12,000 per semester.
ABVP demanded that there should be no increase in course and hostel fees this year and the previous fee increase should also be reduced so that all students can get quality education at easy, accessible and reasonable fees.
Hoping that university administration would take appropriate action as soon as possible keeping in mind the interests of the students, otherwise, the ABVP also warned to start an agitation in the university in the coming days for the genuine demands of the students.
The Vice Chancellor assured that the decisions taken regarding fee increase will be considered keeping in view the interest of the students.
Meenakshi, Prachi, Simran, Nandani, Rahul, Manoj also remained present on this occasion.
