AC in Isolation Ward of GMC develops snag over 10 days back, not restored

JAMMU, June 2: The COVID patients in Isolation Ward No 2 of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu are facing miserable situation for over last 10 days after the AC in the Ward developed a snag and concerned authorities failed to restore it despite the repeated pleas by the attendants as well as the patients fighting a battle with dreaded COVID in the Ward.
According to some of the patients and their attendants, they have been constantly making requests to concerned authorities of the Hospital including concerned engineers for over last ten days demanding restoration of the AC to provide some relief to the patients fighting the dreaded Pandemic from scorching heat, but every time they said that the part is to be purchased from outside the UT and it will come within a day or so but over 10 days have passed the part of AC was not brought from outside and installed in AC to make it functional, they added.
There are 11 COVID patients in the Ward and their condition is deteriorating as on one side they are battling with dreaded virus and on the other side the non functioning of AC has further worsened the condition of their health said the attendants.
The issue was even taken up with the Executive Engineer, Deputy Medical Superintendent and Superintendent of the Hospital by the attendants and it was also brought in the notice of Financial Commissioner of Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo too but to no avail alleged the attendants showing the grave concern towards the lives of their patients admitted in the ward.
This correspondent who also took up the issue with the concerned X-En and Deputy Medical Superintendent of the Hospital for last two days was informed that the part is to be brought from Jallandhar (Punjab) and it will come by the evening and the AC will be restored in the Ward by the morning but two days have since passed and much to the chagrin of hapless patients the AC has not been restored as yet.
The attendants and patients terming it the callousness of the authorities and invited the attention of the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha as well as Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education towards the matter and urged them to probe the issue that how the concerned officers were playing with the lives of patients during this critical time.
