Srinagar, Mar 3: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today trapped and arrested a Junior Engineer of Rural Development Department for demanding bribe in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In a statement issued here, ACB said that Tassaduq Riyaz, Junior Engineer, Rural Development Department (REW), Block Harduabora, Tehsil Karhama, District Baramulla was arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 5000 for preparing bills
ACB said that it received a complaint wherein the complainant alleged that they received the allotment of work titled construction of retaining wall and fencing around Dargah near Gani Masjid Karhama under ADP/PRI on the estimated cost of Rs 1.90 lakh.
“The work was completed and bills were to be prepared. Tassaduq Riyaz was demanding Rs. 5000 for preparing bills of work done by the complainant,” ACB said.
Upon receiving the instant complaint, prima facie offence U/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was found made out. “Consequently, a case FIR No. 08/2022 was registered at P/S ACB Baramulla and investigation taken up,” ACB said.
As per ACB, during the investigation, a trap team was constituted which laid a successful trap and caught red-handed Tassaduq Riyaz while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs. 5000 from the complainant.
“He was arrested and taken into custody by ACB Team. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses; further investigation into the case is on,” ACB said.
