ACB books ZEO Qazigund, SMC officials in separate cases of corruption

JAMMU, Jan 19: Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested ZEO Qazigund and a clerk in his office for commission of corrupt practices while officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation were booked for abusing their official position in issuing wrong building permission for ulterior motives.
There was a written complaint lodged by one Gh Mohammad Wani of Naroopora, Kukarnag alleging that ZEO Qazigund namely Imtiyaz Ahmad Hakeem was demanding bribe of Rs 5000 from him for release of payment for two executed works. The ZEO allegedly asked the complainant to keep the money with his clerk Sulinder Singh.
On basis of the complaint, a trap team was constituted by ACB Kashmir, which caught Sulinder Singh red handed while demanding and accepting bribe amounting Rs 5000/- from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of independent witness.
A case FIR No. 03/ 2019 P/S ACB Kashmir has been registered in Anti Corruption Bureau, Kashmir under section 5(1) (d) r/w 5(2) J&K PC Act Samvat 2006 and Sec 4-A of the amended PC Act against the accused public servant. Later on the relevant records were seized and both the Clerk along with the accused ZEO were arrested for the commission of corrupt practices. Further investigations are going on into the case.
In another case, ACB Kashmir booked officers and officials of SMC for issuing building permission No. 267 of 2009 dated 03-09-2009 in the name of one Ghulam Qadir Sofi who had already expired on 14-06-2008. Son of the deceased namely Mohammad Arif Sofi of P C Depot Rehmat Abad Qamerwari Srinagar, in lieu of said building permission and under well knit conspiracy with officers/officials of SMC Srinagar, namely Ab Salam, then Ward Officer ( now Rtd), Gh Rasool Dar, then Ward officer and Mohammd Yousuf, then Building Inspector, constructed two commercial structures in clear violation to the norms and sketch of building permission which was otherwise for residential purpose.
The said act of omission and commission on the part of officers/officials of SMC Srinagar and the beneficiary invited offences punishable U/S 5(1) (d) read with section 5(2) J&K PC Act Svt 2006 and Section 120-B. Accordingly, case FIR No.04/2019 was registered in P/S ACB Srinagar and further investigation into the case is on.
Meanwhile, Anti-corruption Bureau Jammu today produced Challan against a Tehsil Supply Officer and Storekeeper of FCS&CA Department in corruption case.
Challan in case FIR No 43/2017 P/S ACB Jammu U/S 5 (1) (d) read with section 5 (2) J&K P.C. Act Svt. 2006 and Sec.4-A PC Act (Amendment 2014) and 120-B/RPC against the accused namely Nazir Ahmed Wani, the then TSO Ramban and Farooq Ahmed Mir, then Storekeeper, before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Doda.
The accused Storekeeper was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 40,000 on behalf of the TSO from a ration dealer for disbursement of carriage charges.
Next date of hearing in the case has been fixed for 11.02.2019.
