Two hotels, 240 kanals land detected at Manali

JAMMU, June 26: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today conducted raids at multiple locations of Chanchal Singh, DySP Operations Hatipora in Kulgam district including two hotels at Manali, two houses at Roop Nagar in Jammu and Kathua, a Bar and detected huge investments in properties including purchase of 240 kanals land near Manali on the name of his wife and many benami transactions.

The ACB also searched the house of Ganesh Kumar at village Karloop near Domana who was working as Manager in the Manali hotel.
Officials said two hotels MAI VRINDAVAN and Chatanya were searched by the ACB sleuths at Kullu Manali in Himachal Pradesh and documents revealed that they were on the names of the DySP’s sister-in-law (Bhabhi). However, during searches in one of the hotels, the ACB sleuths recovered documents which showed purchase of 240 kanals of land at Mohal and Phatu Burua Kothi in Manal area near Manali on the name of Rekha Devi wife of Chanchal Singh.
The sale agreement was dated February 25, 2022 executed between Ved Parkash of Shimla and Rekha Devi which was been seized by the ACB sleuths. The agreement was executed for total sale of Rs 2.85 crore out of which Rekha Devi had made payment of Rs 50 lakh including Rs 25 lakh through cheques and Rs 25 lakh in cash.
During the searches conducted at Hatli Kathua, at residence and Bar, the ACB teams came across documents pertaining to benami properties in the shape of will deed of huge chunk of land. The documents showed purchase of huge land from more than 20 persons.
The Government quarter of Chanchal Singh at District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu and Hatipora in Kulgam district and his house at Roop Nagar in Jammu district were also searched by the ACB teams.
Besides, the ACB teams searched the house of Ganesh at Karloop near Domana who was introduced at Kullu Manali by the DySP as owner of the hotel but was working there as Manager.
An official statement issued by the Anti-Corruption Bureau here this evening said the ACB Jammu has registered a case FIR No. 08/2024 in P/S Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu on the outcome of a secret verification conducted into the allegations that the accused namely Chanchal Singh, who is serving as Deputy Superintendent of Police in Jammu & Kashmir Police has acquired huge assets disproportionate to his known source of income.
“The verification revealed that the accused officer during his posting at lucrative posts and indulging in corrupt practices, has accumulated various moveable and immoveable properties in his own name and in the names of his family members/relatives as well as benami properties which includes immovable properties comprising of residential houses, plots, shops, business establishment in different Districts of Jammu province and two hotels located in district Kullu (Manali), Himachal Pradesh and also acquired huge bank balances and valuables,” the statement said.
During course of investigation, after obtaining search warrants from the Court, searches were conducted at the residences/offices of the accused as well as family members/relatives including residential houses and business establishments located at different district of Jammu province, Kulgam and Manali, the statement said.
