SRINAGAR, Apr 22: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today trapped and arrested a Gram Sewak (GRS) of the Rural Development Department in Bandipora for demanding and accepting bribe.
According to ACB, accused Abdul Rashid, GRS of Rural Development Department, Block Arin, District Bandipora, was demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 6000 from the complainant for doing Geo-Tag of plinth area of the later’s under construction house site constructed by him under PMAY-G Scheme.
The complainant had received an initial installment of Rs 50,000 for construction of a pacca house under PMAY-G. When he completed plinth of the house from that money and for further installments, he visited BDO office Arin few days back where the officials informed him about the requirement of Geo-Tag of the said site for further processing the case for release of second installment.
On April 21, 2024, Rashid visited the site and demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant but finally the deal was settled for Rs 6000. The complainant was asked to pay Rs 2500 on 22 April and the rest of the amount after receiving the second installment.
On receiving a formal complaint in this regard, ACB constituted a trap team and caught the accused GRS red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2500 from the complainant.
The accused was immediately taken into custody after completing all legal formalities. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses.
