RAMBAN, Apr 11: A rashly driven truck hit another truck from the rear side inside Chenani-Nashri tunnel on Friday morning leaving five members of a nomad family injured and killing 19 sheep and a dog.
Police said that the rashly driven truck bearing registration number JK21-3479 was on way to Srinagar and it rammed into another truck (Canter) bearing registration number JK21A-4379 inside the tunnel.
The truck (Canter) was carrying nomads and their livestock towards Srinagar.
They said after receiving information, cops reached the spot and shifted the injured persons to Community Health Center, Chenani and Batote for treatment.
Police has identified the injured persons as Mohammad Sharief, 50; Arifa Bibi, 45, wife of Mohhamad Sharief; Umra, 20, wife of Waseem; Sahida Akhter, 27, wife of Wajid Ali and Wajid Ali, 28, son of Mohammad Sharif-all residents of Sungal Pouni, district Reasi.
Due to accident, vehicular traffic was disrupted for some time but resumed later on after the accidental vehicles were removed.
SHO Police Station Batote, Inspector Vijay Kotwal said a case in FIR number 27 of 2025 under Section 281/125(a)/325 BNS has been registered at Police Station Batote in this regard and investigations started.
