Acharya wins national award on Siachen

JAMMU, Feb 18: The Photograph on Indian Army’s Green Siachen initiative won second national photo Award in Special mention Category (under Professional Category). The national photo award winning photograph was clicked by S N Acharya, Officiating PRO (Defence ) Jammu.
Mr Acharya being the only Photographic Officer from the Ministry of Defence to cover the entire Northern Command and part of Western Command has varied experience of photo coverage.
His another photograph in the same category clicked in Mushkoh Valley of Drass Sector, the second coldest place in the world also won the award.
The Northern Command of the Indian Army takes many initiatives for ecological initiative in Siachen Glacier. The photographs clicked at the world’s highest battle field with chilling temperature.
The award is given by the Government of India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Acharya was also awarded with Vice Chief of Army staffs (VCOAS) instant commendation certificate for his outstanding photo feature on Kargil after 10 years -Indian Army contribution to development from Drass to Siachen in 2009.
