Jammu, Nov 20: Arthroscopic reconstruction of tera ‘Anterior Cruciate Ligament of Knee’ was performed in Government Hospital Sarwal today on a 32 year old patient who had torn his ACL which is required for stability of knee.
Patient was having pain and his knee was unstable. He was not able to walk.
Tendons of hamstring muscles of thigh were used to reconstruct ACL using minimal invasive (button hole) arthroscopic technique. The surgery was performed by Dr Nipun Kalsotra (Consultant Orthopedics) who is trained in such types of arthroscopic surgeries from Germany. Anaesthesia was given by Dr Arun Arora and Dr Bimla Bhagat and assisted by Jaswinder Singh.
Dr Danish Ayub Khan, Medical Superintendent of Government Hospital Sarwal informed that arthroscopic surgeries of knee are being regularly performed in Sarwal Hospital by Dr Nipun Kalsotra for the last 6 months and this specialized ACL Surgery is first to be performed in District Hospital of the State.
Arthroscopic Knee Surgeries are performed to treat conditions of knee like meniscal tear, instability of knee, chronic knee pain and osteoarthritis of knee.
