SAMBA, Feb 8: The Samba Electricity Department has disconnected the connections of 17 industrial units in the industrial area of Samba for non-payment of electricity bills.
The electricity bill of these units was more than Rs 1.5 crore for which the Department has taken the action. Samba Electricity Department has taken action on a total of 17 units on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Department has taken action on 11 units in phase one on Tuesday and has disconnected the power supply to six more units in SIDCO Phase Two today. Some of these units are closed but in working condition.
On the other hand, the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Department said that clear instructions have been issued by the higher authorities that action should be taken against any industrial unit and business establishment whose bill has been paid for more than two months. “Our officers have taken action on a total of 17 units in a span of two days and all of them had arrears of more than one and a half crore. Within two days, the Department has also recovered Rs 45 lakh from some of these units, after which the electricity of some units has been restored”. He said that this process will continue in the coming days as well.
