JAMMU, Dec 27: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa, ADC Harvinder Singh today convened a meeting to streamline the state of traffic and regulate vehicular movement and management in traditional markets of Jammu city.
The meeting was attended by Additional CEO Smart City Hitesh Gupta, SP North Kulbir Handa, Assistant Commissioner JMC (Rev) Manisha besides Councillors and representatives of different market associations.
The meeting discussed various initiatives for free flow of traffic in Jammu especially old city including removal of road side parking, rehris and hawkers from roads and lanes that cause congestion in these commercial hubs of Old City. Stress was given on maximum use of designated parking, creating separate slots for small load carriers, ban on heavy load carriers in day time etc.
At the outset, the ADC asked the Councilors and representatives of market associations for their suggestions to improve the traffic scenario in old city.
They apprised the meeting about their concerns and issues of the shopkeepers and people residing beside City area.
The ADC urged the Councilors and representatives of market associations to lend their support in spreading awareness amongst people regarding optimal use of designated parkings and not to park their vehicles on roadside for longer periods.
The ADC also asked the concerned officials to take strict action against the violators under the rule of law.
He also enjoined upon the concerned officers to be prepared to undertake special drives especially the removal of encroachment at footpaths in all areas and marking yellow lines on road and footpath to further regulate traffic, besides asking for ensuring rehris and hawkers to carry out their businesses in already identified/ notified zones.
