Addl DC tenders apology, Enggs call off strike

SRINAGAR, July 14: Additional Deputy Commissioner-Srinagar, Mohammad Aslam Qadri today tendered an unconditional apology to the engineers and following this the engineering associations have called off their indefinite strike scheduled to begin on July 17.
The ADC-Srinagar tendered the apology for his beating up of a junior engineer of Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) who was working at the drainage project near Baghi Hyder on the Hyderpora byepass connecting Kashmir valley with Jammu.
In a joint press release, G. R Malla, President Jammu and Kashmir Diploma Engineers Association, Sajad Wani, Vice President, Jammu and Kashmir Graduate Engineers Association and Tariq Hussain, Vice-Chairman, State Joint Action of Jammu and Kashmir Graduate Engineers Association said that ADC-Srinagar tendered the apology in their presence and also in the presence of various officials of ERA.
It would be in place to mention here that Engineer Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Junior Engineer, ERA was beaten up by ADC-Srinagar on July 10. The incident occurred when the ADC-Srinagar visited the work site at Hyderpora and directed the engineers to ensure that the manhole of the drain is constructed near the residence of his sister Dr. Hasina Qadri.
Engineer Mushtaq while quoting the site plan, said that it is not possible to follow the diktats of ADC-Srinagar. The denial of the engineer didn’t go well with the ADC and without seeking any further details he thrashed and beat up the engineer.
Following this the ERA engineers working on various projects across the State suspended their work and began an indefinite strike. They demanded unconditional apology from ADC-Srinagar.
