Srinagar, May 4: The Inspector General of Police Traffic, Munir Ahmad Khan today said that traffic police will ensure hassle free movement of traffic during summer when large number of vehicle ply in Srinagar city.
Addressing a press conference on traffic arrangements made for ensuring hassle free movement of traffic in rural areas in general and Srinagar city in particular during the summer months in view of move of offices from Jammu to Srinagar and forthcoming Shri Amaranth Ji Yatra-2013, the IGP said that traffic rules violators will be strongly dealt with.
He said that to ensure hassle free movement of traffic, the cranes will be put in service to avoid wrong parking with special emphasis on Hari Singh High Street, Residency Road, MA Road. “This time the operation of cranes will be extended to Bye-pass also to check the menace of wrong parking”, he added.
The IGP said that focus of traffic police in Srinagar city will be on visible offences like overloading, rooftop loading, use of mobile phone while driving, not wearing seat belt, non-use of crash helmet while driving two wheelers, double pillion riding on two wheelers etc as these are the offences which ultimately result in accidents and loss of precious human lives.
“Traffic police is also taking additional measures to check the traffic congestion at Panthachowk, Parimpora and HMT Crossing especially during peak hours. For reducing the traffic pressure on Sempora-Pantha Chowk road stretch, trucks coming from Jammu will be diverted through Kadlabal-Pampore-Lasjan Bye-pass road. Traffic Police on motorcycles will also be deployed in Srinagar city ensuring hassle free movement of vehicles”, the IGP said.
Jagjit Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police Traffic, Range Kashmir, Haseeb-ur-Rehman Superintendent of Police Traffic, City Srinagar and Manzoor Ahmad Dalal Superintendent of Police Traffic, Rural Kashmir were also present in the press conference.
