Address PWM Gap in J&K

Sir,
I write to express my deep concern regarding the alarming gap in Plastic Waste Management (PWM) infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), as highlighted in this paper.
It is distressing to learn that out of 285 blocks in J&K, only three have functional Plastic Waste Management Units (PWMUs), while Ladakh shows significant progress with 15 out of 31 blocks. This deficiency not only mars the visual appeal of our villages but also poses grave environmental and public health risks.
The Parliament’s Standing Committee on Water Resources rightly emphasizes the urgency of addressing this issue.
It is imperative for the Government to expedite the establishment of PWMUs across all blocks in J&K. This requires not only adequate funding but also effective implementation strategies and community involvement.
I urge the Central Government to take swift action, provide technical assistance, and facilitate public-private partnerships to accelerate progress in PWM infrastructure development. Together, we can work towards a cleaner, future for all residents of J&K.
