KARGIL, July 25: The Ladakh Police Department took a significant stride towards women’s empowerment and safety today by inaugurating the region’s first-ever Women Police Station in Kargil district.
The inauguration ceremony held at Petrol Pump Kargil NH1 witnessed the presence of SD Sing Jamwal, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Ladakh, and other esteemed guests.
A statement said that this landmark initiative is geared towards addressing the unique concerns and challenges faced by women in the area.
It said the women police station will focus on handling cases related to women’s rights, domestic violence, harassment, and other gender-specific offenses, thereby providing a safer environment for women to report incidents and seek justice.
During the inauguration, SD Sing Jamwal emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment and their active participation in law enforcement.
He stated, “the establishment of the Women Police Station in Kargil is a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and secure society. This initiative will instil confidence in women, assuring them that their concerns will be handled sensitively and expeditiously.”
The newly inaugurated women police station is staffed with a dedicated team of well-trained female police officers. This team is equipped to handle cases involving women and will operate round the clock to provide immediate assistance and support for women in need.
The station will also act as a resource center, offering guidance and counselling services through the Special Cell for Women to help women facing challenging situations.
