JAMMU, Aug 8: Additional Director General of Police (Railways), Jammu and Kashmir, Sunil Kumar, chaired a crucial meeting here today to assess and reinforce security measures at local railway stations, with a sharp focus on preventing any potential disruptions by elements with anti-national inclinations in the lead-up to Independence Day celebrations.
A statement said that the meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector General of Railways, Haseeb-ur-Rehman, Senior Superintendent of Police, GRP, Jammu, Mohan Lal Kaith, and SSP GRP Katra, Sanjay Kumar Kotwal, among other key officials.
It said that the deliberations during the meeting encompassed a comprehensive review of existing security arrangements in and around railway stations, with particular attention to the imminent Independence Day festivities and the ongoing Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.
Senior officials were directed to maintain an elevated state of vigilance to thwart the designs of those harbouring anti-national and anti-social motives.
The focus also extended to enhancing the quality of crime investigations through professionally sound and merit-based approaches, as outlined by Kumar.
In a bid to heighten security efforts, the ADGP advocated for the optimal deployment of available manpower.
He underscored the importance of setting up dedicated teams, including a specialized Railway Special Branch (RSB), as well as squads focused on countering the illicit drug trade. These teams will assume responsibility for continuous monitoring and situation assessment at railway stations, effectively contributing to the maintenance of security standards.
Concurrently, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Suleman Choudhary, convened a separate meeting within the Udhampur district, specifically along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
Attended by high-ranking police officials, CRPF personnel, and representatives from intelligence agencies, this meeting engaged in in-depth discussions concerning the current law and order climate.
Deliberations extended to countering potential terrorist activities and reinvigorating insurgency movements, while also addressing the surveillance of individuals associated with terrorists and those who had voluntarily surrendered.
Choudhary, during his address, emphasized the pivotal role of fortified checkpoints along the National Highway. These checkpoints are instrumental in curbing the movement of illegal items, including drugs and weapons.
He stressed the importance of seamless coordination among the Army, BSF, CRPF, and local police to effectively manage the region. Special attention was directed toward areas with minority presence, alongside a call for the timely sharing of actionable intelligence among all concerned agencies, thereby ensuring effective surveillance against elements with intentions contrary to national security.
