No snow clearance from majority of roads, no power restoration

Srinagar Feb 23: The snowfall in Kashmir has plunged the Valley into darkness as there is no electricity since last night while snow has not been cleared from majority of the roads including those in Srinagar city.
There has been around eight inches of snowfall in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley also experienced 1-2 feet of overnight snowfall.
An MET official said that there has been moderate to heavy snowfall in Kashmir. “Moderate to heavy rain/snow with isolated very Heavy snow occurred at most places of J&K with higher reaches reporting 1-2 ft of snow and thunderstorms in Jammu region,” a meteorological department official here said here.
He said that Srinagar reported 7.5 inches of snow till 830 hours today.
“We expect gradual decrease in rain/snow from today afternoon and significant improvement from evening,” the MeT official said, adding, “Overall improvement is most likely from February 24 onwards”. After this spell, the official said, “there’s no forecast of any major rain/snow till ending February.”
Reports reaching from various parts of Kashmir said that there has been no snow clearance today. “I live on Alijan Road and this is vital road as it leads to SKIMS Soura but there has been no snow clearance till 11:30 a.m”, said one Bashir Ahmad.
Bilal Ahmad from Bemina area told Excelsior that this tome administration has failed to clear the snow from the roads. “They have failed. They were napping and they had no preparedness. Last time when it snowed two months back, snow was cleared early in the morning”, he said.
Similar reports are pouring in from other parts of Kashmir where no snow clearance has been done so far.
The snowfall has also plunged the Valley into darkness as there is no electricity across Kashmir since last night. “We have no electricity since last night. Administration has failed to restore it”, said Mohammad Amir from Rawalpora.
